Educational Tools Introduction

Labour education that focuses on the social investment of pension funds is a vital part of Pensions at Work, Project 7. Historically, the majority of pension education has been provided by the financial industry.

A central theme in adult education is transforming the role of learners from passive recipients of knowledge to active participants in the education process. One objective of Project 7 is to address the needs of labour while transforming the role of learners from passive recipients of knowledge to active participants in the education process. Through the development of educational modules based on the research, in print and multimedia, this project will also attempt to address the appropriate balance between relevant content and learner involvement in the process.

Labour education in pensions can help union trustees and activists keep ahead of the latest research in fund investment, capital strategies, the latest trends in statutes and case law, actuarial assumptions, and socio-economic trends. Labour education can also help to bring members up to speed on pension issues and allow them to take leadership roles on pensions within the labour movement.

Pensions at Work, Project 7 provides educators and trainers with a full day general curriculum designed for union members who have limited knowledge about pensions. Additionally, a half-day curriculum has been designed for members who are trustees or who have advanced knowledge in the area of pensions. All of the tools required to teach the curriculum can be found on this website.

The educational tools, which include education modules on specific topics, slide presentations, definitions and glossaries, case studies and lecture videos, can also be used as "stand alone" resources to enhance your current education plans.

All of the information available on this website, including all the educational materials, are free to be downloaded, used and distributed at no cost.  In terms of copyright, we only ask that Pensions at Work and the individuals identified with the material be credited for their work.
